ZONNEGEM/PHILADELPHIA - Language and Computing (L&C) NV, a developer of Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions for the healthcare and pharmaceutical markets, announced new key appointments to support the further expansion of its worldwide activities. Mr. Luc Wanten has been appointed VP of Business Development. Prior to joining L&C, Mr. Wanten was general manager of the Agfa Healthcare IT business unit for Europe/Africa/Middle-East, supervising and implementing the general strategy, the strategic alliances and M&A activities of the unit, and managing bottom-line results. At L&C, Mr. Wanten will direct the company's horizontal expansion, including its strategic management. Mr. Wanten holds Master degrees in Organizational Science and Business Management (MBA) from the Catholic University of Louvain (KUL). Mr. Laurent Marlein joins the company from Barco ID, active in projection and medical imaging, where he was international marketing manager. Mr. Marlein has more than 10 years of experience in marketing and management of ICT companies and holds an engineering and MBA degree. He originally started his career at Alcatel and afterwards joined Tele Atlas (the reference in digital mapping) for which he founded Tele Atlas India, their main software development site. His main focus at L&C will be to further streamline its product management. Dr. James R. Flanagan, MD, PhD has been appointed Senior Medical Informatics Consultant. Dr. Flanagan has ten years experience in applied and research medical informatics at the University of Iowa where he directed the internal development of their electronic medical record. His research has led to over 30 publications and a number of presentations for the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). At L&C his role is investigation of new opportunities to apply NLP technology, management of projects in North America and formal evaluation of NLP capabilities.
