Agnitio Rolls Out Voice Biometrics to South Africa

Agnitio, a provider of voice biometrics, announced the deployment of a secure biometrics-based proof of life authentication system to millions of South African citizens receiving social security benefits and services, with partner Net 1 Universal Electronic Payment Systems Technologies (Net1), a provider of payment solutions and transaction processing services.

The South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) has deployed the Net1 electronic grant payment disbursement system with the Agnitio Voice iDauthentication engine. By using the solution, beneficiaries can prove their existence by simply making a phone call instead of traveling long distances and waiting in long lines.

"Together with Net1, we have provided a means for South African citizens to access their grants quicker, easier and more securely by simply making a phone call," said Philippe Vinci, executive vice president of marketing and sales at Agnitio, in a statement. "By combining a government-issued debit card with accurate voice biometrics authentication, the Net1 UEPS Proof of Life system has truly changed life for constituents, while streamlining agency operations and costs."
