MENLO PARK, CA - Nuance (Nasdaq: NUAN), a provider of software for a voice-driven world, announced that Audiopoint, a speech applications company developing products for businesses that reach consumer markets, selected Nuance's text-to-speech, voice authentication and speech recognition software to be the engines powering Audiopoint's array of voice applications and services. In related news, Audiopoint just announced that its E-mail-by-Phone application enabled by Nuance's speech recognition and text-to-speech technology was recently added to EarthLink's (NASDAQ: ELNK) suite of Internet solution tools, enabling over 4.9 million users to harness the power of speech to "read" and respond to emails anytime, anywhere and from any phone. The new EarthLink service allows subscribers to access their email by phone for $4.95 per month. "Nuance's developer support was critical for us in landing the E-mail-by-Phone service contract with EarthLink and deploying it in an accelerated period of time, said Larry Whitehead, CTO of Audiopoint. "Nuance's technology will continue to provide us with a state-of-the-art platform for future speech application deployments." "Speech technology is an integral component in taking email communication to the next level, making it accessible from anywhere," said Ronald Croen, CEO, Nuance. "Forward-thinking businesses like Audiopoint and EarthLink understand the power speech technology brings to traditional communications applications, and they are responding to customers' desire to have 24/7 access to information."
