Brooktrout, SpeechWorks Partner on Speech Recognition for the Telecommunications Market

Brooktrout Technology has partnered with SpeechWorks (Nasdaq: SPWX), the supplier in speech recognition and TTS technologies and services, to deliver speech recognition on its TR1000 media resource platform.

With Brooktrout's support for SpeechWorks software, developers can create speech-enabled applications for telcos and enterprises such as voice-activated dialing, automated operator assistance and unified messaging.

Brooktrout and SpeechWorks have collaborated on the development of integration code and sample applications to jump start developers. In addition to the engineering work, the two companies have signed a joint marketing agreement that defines their collaboration on marketing and sales in the speech market.

"Brooktrout Technology has been an excellent technology partner, working to ensure that our products are seamlessly integrated and support rapid development of speech-based applications," said Bill Ledingham, vice president of product development at SpeechWorks. "By offering integration code and sample applications together with Brooktrout we are helping our developers create best of breed solutions, particularly for the telecommunications market."

"As a provider of open systems enabling technology, Brooktrout's products are only a component of an overall solution. We rely on the strength of our partners to jointly provide world class speech solutions," says Peter Vescuso, vice president of marketing for Brooktrout's New Public Networks Group. "According to the Kelsey Group, SpeechWorks has the largest ASR market share. Our customers can feel confident that Brooktrout is partnering with a recognized leader in the speech market, and that ASR applications developed on our products are optimized for high performance and ease of integration."

The TR1000 is optimized for carrier-grade speech solutions, such as voice dialing, speech-enabled unified communications, automated operator services, and personal agents (find me/follow me services). Systems can be configured to support over 240 simultaneous, full-featured ASR sessions. The TR1000 also supports Speechify, SpeechWorks' human-sounding TTS product, which is used in unified messaging applications and complementary applications to ASR. Brooktrout also offers a lower-density speech recognition platform through its Vantage Series of boards. The Vantage Series provides barge-in speech recognition capabilities for analog systems of four to 32 channels.
