Loquendo has partnered with mobile applications developer BitKnights, to launch a new iPhone/iPod application for anyone wishing to brush up their language skills. The application, called BitKnights Vocabulary Trainer, features Loquendo Embedded TTS in eight languages.

The application, which can be downloaded to an iPhone or iPod Touch, is available from the iTunes App Store. It allows language learners at any level to hear the correct pronunciation of a database of commonly used words in eight languages. Currently supported languages are English, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, German, Russian, and Turkish.

The Vocabulary Trainer suggests a word, in Spanish for example, along with five possible translations in English. As with all supported languages, training can be Spanish-English or English-Spanish. By tapping the speaker icon on the screen, users can have each source word and target word read aloud by means of Loquendo’s text-to-speech technology, ensuring the correct pronunciation of each word. Users then select the translation they think is correct, and either move on to the next word, or re-try. At the end, they receive a final score; the Vocabulary Trainer analyses their progress, remembers their weak points, and allows them to work on these areas next time.
