Loquendo Partners with MythosTech to Speech Enable Vitrociset’s Air Traffic Control Solution

Loquendo and MythosTech are collaborating with Vitrociset, an Italian information and electronic technology and integrated logistics provider, to deliver Vitrociset’s development of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) simulation suite ATRES APP.

A large part of ATC training makes use of simulators in which trainees perform tasks in various flying scenarios. This requires voice feedback, previously provided by a qualified ATC instructor or professional pilot, known as a Blip Driver. Thanks to Loquendo's speech technology integrated into the ATC solution, this process is now carried out automatically, freeing up instructors to perform tasks more appropriate to their high level of skills.

More precisely, by means of Loquendo automatic speech recognition (ASR), the solution is able to understand and interpret commands given by trainee air traffic controllers (including non native speakers), to respond appropriately to the commands using Loquendo text-to-speech (TTS), and to initiate the correct response from the ATC simulator. The solution understands and correctly pronounces the standard airport, airline, and aircraft codes adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Vitrociset’s ATC solution is a fully automated training system and is highly programmable for carrying out ad-hoc tasks in different operative environments. It is available in both stand-alone configuration and client/server configuration, based on the Loquendo VoxNauta platform for ATC Centers. ATRES APP replicates the work post of an air traffic controller, with the same audio/video interface, and is easily configured for the geographical area where the trainee is based, generating simulations with maps of the local area.
