Pictello Adds Support For 23 Languages

Amsterdam-based AssistiveWare has released Pictello 1.3, which provides free access to 50 voices in 23 languages as well as the addition of four new localizations: French, Spanish, German and Dutch.

The new version of Pictello features North American English male and female voices, with children's voices and voices for 23 languages and dialects that are available as free downloads. Pictello does not require an active Internet connection for story creation or playback; it is a universal app that can be used on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

Each page in a Pictello Story can contain a picture, up to five lines of text, and a recorded sound or text-to-speech. With Pictello, users can create talking books. Photo albums can be translated to allow non-speaking people to share news. Users can share events and memories with family who live far away.

Pictello can also be used to teach narrative skills as part of a literacy or language skills curriculum, and can also create multilingual stories using text-to-speech or voice recordings. Schedules and task instructions can be created, and users can share stories or write group stories using iPad on a VGA monitor or interactive white board (VGA adapter required).

Pictello-created stories can be shared using iTunes File Sharing or via WiFi with other Pictello users through a free account on the Pictello Sharing Server. Pictello is available in the U.S. for $18.99. Prices in other countries vary.
