ScanDis Chooses Acapela's Danish Voice, 'Mette', For Its Software Suite

Acapela's Danish voice, 'Mette', will voice enable ScanDis' software suite, designed to support people with learning disabilities including dyslexia. The integration of Acapela's new Danish voice reinforces the successful partnership established between ScanDis and Acapela Group, the European leader in speech solutions.

Founded in 1991, ScanDis is a leading accessibility software developer based in Denmark. ScanDis' partnership with Acapela started in 1998 when the company wanted to integrate TTS (Text-To-Speech) voices in all of its applications. Today, ScanDis uses Acapela's Multimedia Software Development Kit and benefits from the complete Acapela multilingual portfolio. With Acapela's High Quality Danish voice, 'Mette', ScanDis can provide its products with a high-end, natural sounding, Danish TTS solution and to meet the demand of its home market.

The software suite developed by ScanDis helps end-users to progress more  autonomously in their reading and writing processes. The company's offer for people with learning disabilities includes the following products:

  • ViTal (Read OnScreen) - is a background text-to-speech application working as a screen and text reader in Microsoft Windows.
  • ViTex (Print OnScreen) - is an easy to use print-to-speech OCR programme, which associates the scanning of printed pages or books with text-to-speech capabilities enabling the text to be read aloud in a very simple way.
  • ViseOrd (Write OnScreen) - is a comprehensive and easy to use word completion programme with speech feedback on suggested words.

Acapela's TTS adds the natural dimension of voice to the ScanDis offer to give immediate speech feedback. The end-user can operate more easily and gains autonomy and confidence through a dynamic and user friendly interface, fully benefiting from the ScanDis suite.
