Vertica Unveils Analytics Platform Version 5.1

Vertica, an HP company and provider of real-time analytics platforms, Tuesday announced the release of Vertica 5.1, the latest version of the Vertica Analytics Platform, which offers improvements in the areas of usability, management, and integration with the big data ecosystem.

Available immediately, Vertica 5.1 features a new graphical management console, and extends the platform in the areas of usability and manageability. In addition, Vertica 5.1 includes a revamped client framework that makes it easier to integrate with third-party BI, ETL, analytics, and other ecosystem solutions. The Vertica Analytics Platform is built to handle extreme data, with several customers able to analyze more than a petabyte of data in real time.

Integrated with Autonomy IDOL 10,Vertica 5.1 delivers real-time contextual understanding of structured and unstructured data. IDOL 10 provides a single processing layer that enables organizations to extract meaning and act on all forms of information, including audio, video, social media, email, and Web content, as well as structured data such as customer transaction logs and machine-based sensor data.

"With the new Vertica Management Console, managing and monitoring a Vertica data warehouse installation has never been easier," said Colin Mahony, vice president of products and business development at Vertica, in a statement. "The Vertica Management Console has a cool look and feel, and the process of creating a new Vertica cluster, adding nodes, dropping databases, and keeping track of system performance is now as simple as dragging and dropping icons and watching a system health dashboard."

As part of the 5.1 release, Vertica is delivering a host of new features to the analytic marketplace including:

  • Vertica management console: With version 5.1, Vertica introduces a new integrated solution for monitoring and managing Vertica deployments. The Vertica Management Console is an enterprise-class, graphical management tool that provides an intuitive, unified view of even very large Vertica clusters at a glance and allows configuration and monitoring of Vertica databases from a single point of control.
  • New client framework: Vertica introduces a new client framework with broad platform support and ODBC and JDBC drivers that have been rewritten and optimized for big data analytics use cases. The new implementation greatly improves the drivers' quality, standards compliance, compatibility with third-party tools, performance, and platform support.
  • Ecosystem integration: As part of a new integration framework, Vertica 5.1 offers improved integration with the broader big data ecosystem. This includes Hadoop distributions based on Apache Commons Release 1.0.0, including Hortonworks Data Platform v1. In addition, Vertica's Informatica Plugin has been updated with several quality and performance improvements.

"Vertica has always been focused on the user experience, and Vertica 5.1 offers the tools to make managing and monitoring a Vertica installation a snap so users can focus on monetizing all of their data," said Scott Howser, vice president of marketing at Vertica, in a statement. "The work we've done in streamlining our client framework allows our customers to integrate quickly and easily with their existing analytics environment."

Vertica 5.1 is available immediately worldwide as a software download directly from Vertica. Pricing is based on a flexible licensing model calculated on the amount of raw data stored on the Vertica Analytics Platform.
