Wellmont Health System Selects M*Modal for Clinical Documentation Solutions

M*Modal, a provider of clinical documentation solutions, today announced an expanded relationship with Wellmont Health System to deliver exclusive enterprise-wide transcription, front-end speech recognition, workflow and reporting for electronic medical records (EMRs) and radiology systems.

Wellmont selected M*Modal Fluency Direct and M*Modal Fluency for Imaging as the clinical documentation platforms to realize substantial cost savings, increased physician adoption, and improved productivity as it implements its Epic EHR later this year.

Based in Kingsport, Tenn., Wellmont is a not-for-profit, 1,200-bed integrated health system featuring seven hospitals, two major trauma centers, and more than 30 ambulatory facilities. M*Modal has provided Wellmont with transcription services since 2009, and with this agreement will become Wellmont's sole provider of clinical documentation services and solutions across all of its facilities.

"In rolling out our new Epic EMR system, we were looking for a single documentation creation platform to leverage across our enterprise and support efficient workflows and reporting," said Kent Petty, chief information officer at Wellmont, in a statement. "Wellmont emphasizes quality outcomes for our patients, and M*Modal's speech solutions will help us improve productivity and free up our physicians and staff to focus on patient care."

M*Modal Fluency Direct and M*Modal Fluency for Imaging are cloud-based software that capture spoken medical dictation and turn it into both unstructured text and structured data that can be shared with EMR/EHR, HIS, RIS and PACS systems. M*Modal's solutions enable doctors to conversationally create and edit clinical data directly within EMRs through voice-navigation. As part of this agreement, Wellmont will transition from the M*Modal SpeechQ for Radiology reporting platform to M*Modal Fluency for Imaging.

"M*Modal Fluency products give Wellmont's healthcare providers tremendous capability to quickly and accurately create documentation for improved billing, productivity and patient care," said Vern Davenport, CEO of M*Modal, in a statement. "M*Modal's cloud-based technology can significantly enhance the quality of digital records while making EMRs more user-friendly and accessible."
