Future Apple TV Might Find Its Voice

The Internet is buzzing about an article in today's Wall Street Journal detailing Apple's plans that further its technology for Apple TV, including voice capabilities.

According to the story, Apple executives have held recent meetings with several large media companies to discuss how Apple's offerings can recognize consumers who use other Apple products, such as iPads and iPhones, and implement them into television.

Part of that technology includes how Apple TV could react to user voices and movements, the article said, and enable voice to change channels and other commands.

Other services that might be included in the new television could include licensed media content to provide a subscription service. Another possibility is that the TV could incorporate Apple's wireless-streaming technology, AirPlay, enabling users to control it from iPhones and iPads, the article said.

However, the article also noted that the notoriously close-mouthed Cupertino, Calif.-based company has been "vague" in providing details for its plans.

Samsung, LG, and Sharp are among those also reportedly planning voice-enabled TV sets and related products, perhaps making remote controls obsolete.
