Oracle Teams with Nuance to Work on Voice-Enabled Clinical Trials
Following a partnership announced this week, Oracle will integrate Nuance Communications' cloud-based healthcare speech services into its Web-based and mobile applications for clinical trials.
"Oracle Health Sciences works with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical, and medical device companies," says Jonathon Dreyer, director of cloud and mobile solutions marketing for Nuance's healthcare division. "They offer the software that those companies use for early- to late-stage clinical development."
Three years ago, Nuance released its healthcare developer program, with cloud-based medical speech for mobile, Web, and desktop applications. Oracle is one of those partners. As of now, Nuance has approved roughly 850 healthcare developers into its program and provides access to software development kits.
"They can embed the technology into their mobile (iOS and Android), Web-based, and desktop products and consume the cloud-based speech services from us," Dreyer says.
Oracle is a unique member of Nuance's partner community, says Dreyer, in that many of the applications leveraging the program today are tailored for the physician workflow, such as mobile electronic medical records. Oracle will use Nuance's speech solutions to capture electronic and mobile data, and review data from clinical investigators and researchers.
"The beauty is that if the clinical team is on the road, potentially using an iPad or other mobile device or laptop, instead of physically typing in study documentation and findings, they can just use their voice to document that," Dreyer says.
