Turin, Italy (5/26/2008) - Turin, Italy, and Coruna, Spain -- Loquendo and Tecnocom, a leading Spanish systems integrator, today announced an important new deployment in the Spanish banking sector, powered by Loquendo speech technologies.
Tecnocom's customer, the leading Spanish bank Caixa Galicia, has introduced Loquendo's Galician text-to-speech and automatic speech recognition to their Phone Banking services. This new implementation brings the Galician speech functionality to the bank's broad customer base, which is now enjoying a more customized service in the local official language.
Customers can use their mother tongue to carry out a range of self-service transactions 24x7, including credit card balance enquiries and transactions, mobile phone credit top-ups, payment orders and other transactions.
Caixa Galicia's banking service was launched in 1998. The service now caters to more than 100,000 users each month, with an average 400.000 transactions and queries representing more than 25 percent of Caixa Galicia's overall operations. At least 15 percent of calls are currently in Galician.
Until today, this kind of technology was only available to support Spain's other official languages, Castilian and Catalan. To bridge the gap, Caixa Galicia initiated a project to incorporate the Galician language in 2007. It involved collaboration between Tecnocom as systems integrator, Loquendo as speech technologies provider, the University of Santiago de Compostela and Vigo, the Institute of Galician Language and the R&D department of Galicia's local administration.
Within the scope of this partnership, Loquendo rolled out the new Loquendo TTS voice, Carmela, along with Loquendo ASR for the Galician language. The initiative will enable both enterprises and public sector bodies to introduce Galician to Web portals, phone services, GPS devices, etc.
Through this project, Caixa Galicia completes a comprehensive range of brands using the Galician language, namely their Customer, Companies and Payment Gateway Services.
