Grundig Business Systems has released a smartphone app called Dictation Blue to the BlackBerry App World.

The app has two particular functions: With this app, dictations can be wirelessly received from the Digta 7 Premium BT dictation device via Bluetooth and sent to a smartphone. From there, the dictation is sent automatically to whatever email address has been stored for that particular dictation; an email subject line and text can likewise be set up in advance. Secondly, the app can be used for creating recordings with the smartphone. The recordings are produced in AMR format and can later be imported to the GBS DigtaSoft transcription software.

"This app means that now, for the first time, people can transfer professional-quality dictations via Bluetooth directly from the dictation device to a BlackBerry, where it's sent on its way. It ultimately means greater mobility for the user and decreased transcription turnaround time," says Roland Hollstein, managing director of Grundig.

The app is available in two versions. In its free version, the app can be used for making recordings that are up to two minutes long. It comes with an overwrite function. Also, the user can assign a dictation ID and priority level, and send the recordings directly by email. It isn't necessary to register with a Web server, which normally charges an annual fee per user. The email receiver, subject line, and email text can be set up in advance. This version of the app is available at www.grundig-gbs.com/blackberry or from BlackBerry App World. The second version of the app includes an additional insert function, and the length of a single recording can be up to 60 minutes. This app version is available exclusively from BlackBerry App World at a price of $9.99.

The Dictation Blue app can be used with BlackBerrys OS 4.6 and above. A version for Android smartphones and other operating systems is currently being developed.
