Loquendo has released VoxNauta 7.0.30, now extended with a brand new profile offering support for the World Wide Web Consortium's industry standard State Chart eXtensible Markup Language.
VoxNauta SCXML has been designed to benefit developers wishing to add speech to desktop and Web applications and dedicated devices such as interactive kiosks. It enables the simultaneous execution and synchronization of several parallel tasks and allows voice and multimodal applications to be created faster and more cost-effectively without needing to create proprietary applications for managing speech technologies or for interfacing components.
In particular, the VoxNauta SCXML profile can seamlessly interoperate with Web browsers and third-party applications in a simple and standards-based way, allowing developers to provide a truly multimodal user interface, including output via text-to-speech and a graphical user interface, and input via speech recognition, keyboard, and touch-screen, depending on device capability.
Loquendo’s Multimodal Platform now includes an interpreter to run SCXML scripts. HTTP is used to access service logic and to send/receive events to/from other applications, SNMP for management, while support for AJAX enables the use of the most advanced Web 2.0 techniques. This configuration requires very few computational resources, both in terms of CPU and memory, and so is ideal for rapidly adding voice and multimodality to any device.
The Loquendo VoxNauta platform is available for both Windows and Linux operating systems, while SCXML support is currently for Windows only, with Linux to be added shortly.
"SCXML is becoming increasingly important for the evolution of voice platforms, as multimodality with speech is becoming ever more prevalent in the market," said Paolo Baggia, director of standards at Loquendo. "This is a first step towards the adoption of a new generation of speech standards, of which VoiceXML 3.0 is the key one."
