New Addition to VeCommerce

AUSTRALIA - VeCommerce Limited (ASX:VCM) has announced that Dr. Clive Summerfield, a pioneer within the speech recognition industry in Australia, has joined the company. Dr Summerfield will be based in the Canberra office focused on strengthening VeCommerce's position in the Government Services sector. Dr Summerfield has been involved in the speech recognition industry since the 1980s undertaking the early research and development of speech and linguistic processing. In a move to commercialise the technology, he co-founded Syrinx Speech Systems in 1990. Over the next 10 years he grew Syrinx from a zero funded start-up into a company with over 60 staff and a market capitalisation of around $80 million. In late 2000, Dr Summerfield left Syrinx to pursue advanced uses for the adoption of speech recognition technologies. He became the CEO of the Biometrics Institute, a not-for-profit organisation engaged in research, analysis and education for biometric users, vendors and government agencies in Asia Pacific. Dr Summerfield has a particular interest in the applications of voice verification technology where the human voice can be used as a method for determining the identity of a speaker for security and authentication purposes. Paul Magee, VeCommerce Managing Director, said, "Attracting such a high profile and experienced individual as Clive to become manager of our Government Services division sends out a clear message that we are serious about growing a sustainable business and reinforces our position as the market leader for voice enabled e-commerce solutions."
