U.S. Rep. Giffords Adds Speech Technology to Her Web Site

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) has instituted Audio Eye’s patented technology on her official congressional Web site, http://giffords.house.gov/, allowing site visitors to have text read aloud to them or to have audio and video contents captioned.

Audio Eye provides a solution to allow any disabled, learning, hearing or visually impaired, dyslexic, autistic, elderly, even internet novices and mobile users full access to any Web site. The patented technology converts and indexes Internet content and automates multiformat publishing to automatically create audio from every text publication and text captioning for every audio and video broadcast from Web sites.

Accessibility products from Audio Eye include an Internet Accessibility Initiative that enables content providers, Web site owners, and developers to add software to their sites that will accelerate the performance of those sites when accessed by screen readers; will automatically render them accessible to cell phones, mobile networks, and RSS readers; and will automatically convert audio and video assets to text and text assets to audio with the patent-pending Surf by Sound navigation system.

Site visitors enable the Audio Eye Surf by Sound feature by clicking a link on the top of Giffords' home page. They can also search the site using Audio Eye's technology.

Audio Eye solves Internet accessibility problems with a powerful content management system and unique media player that uses streaming audio navigation. The features of Audio Eye’s technology include text-to-speech conversion, XML ingestion, database content management, intelligent indexing and cataloging, and the intelligent audio or visual display output.

“I am proud to be working with one of southern Arizona’s innovative technology companies,” Giffords said in a statement. “Audio Eye’s technology is playing a significant role in helping me make our government more open and accessible to all citizens of southern Arizona. People with disabilities will now be able to fully interact electronically with my office. Technology is a significant part of our economy and can provide a gateway for citizens to be up-to-date on the issues that concern them.”

“Audio Eye is honored to be the technology solution for our elected officials who are taking next steps in accessibility technology," said Nathaniel Bradley, president and CEO of Audio Eye, in a statement. "Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is taking a proactive approach to her Internet-based communications with her constituents. We believe all members of Congress, the executive and judicial branches of U.S. government with Internet publishing operations should adapt to Congresswoman Giffords’ modern communications approach and allow all voters to interact with their government.”
