M*Modal Partners with athenahealth for Speech-Based Clinical Documentation

M*Modal, a provider of clinical documentation and speech understanding solutions, has partnered with Athenahealth's More Disruption Please(MDP) program. M*Modal Fluency Direct and M*Modal Fluency Flex mobile solutions are now available on the athenahealth MDP Marketplace, and together the companies will work to link Athenahealth's growing network of more than 52,000 care providers with these solutions.

"M*Modal's partnership with Athenahealth brings tremendous value to healthcare providers looking to elevate the quality of clinical documentation and increase physician productivity," said Matt Jenkins, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development at M*Modal, in a statement. "Our solutions make capturing high-quality patient narratives and managing workflows simple and effective, giving physicians more time and better clinical data for delivering improved care."

M*Modal offers two clinical documentation solutions on the Athenahealth marketplace:

  • M*Modal Fluency Direct is a single cloud-based enterprise documentation platform that uses speech understanding technology to translate and produce medical documentation from spoken words. The solution is designed to speech-enable existing health information systems with medical narrative dictation capabilities within third-party applications.
  • M*Modal Fluency Flex Mobile is an iOS-based medical dictation app that enables healthcare providers to dynamically dictate and review notes during patient encounters or on the go. As part of the M*Modal Fluency for Transcription speech engine, the app captures high-quality audio that is securely transmitted for text conversion and transfer to an electronic health record.

"As part of Athenahealth's vision to build a national health information backbone, our More Disruption Please program enables us to partner with some of the most compelling innovators in health IT," said Kyle Armbrester, vice president of business development at Athenahealth, in a statement. "Through MDP, we offer global integration with our cloud-based services, allowing providers to easily connect with these novel technologies and to optimize performance."
