ReadSpeaker Is Acquired

The Memory Disk Division (MD) of The HOYA Group has acquired Dutch text-to-speech systems manufacturer ReadSpeaker and its subsidiaries. The purchase price was not disclosed. 

ReadSpeaker will be operated as a subsidiary of the Speech Synthesizer business unit of MD. ReadSpeaker has subsidiaries in seven European countries and others in the United States and Australia. Its products and services are available in 62 countries.

The Speech Synthesizer business unit of MD is a global text-to-speech product and services unit with operations in Japan, Korea and the United States.

"As a global technology-driven company, ReadSpeaker will augment the language development capabilities and future commercial applications for our speech synthesizer products in the global market,"  said Augustine Yee, chief legal officer and global head of corporate development at HOYA , in a statement. "This acquisition continues our pursuit of innovation both internally and through our acquisition, externalization, and partnering activities."
