Klausner Takes Aim at Verizon and LG

Klausner Technologies, owner of several patents covering visual voicemail solutions that let customers view and retrieve voicemail messages through their mobile devices or computers, has been keeping its lawyers busy.

The company announced today that it has filed a patent infringement suit related to the visual voicemail technology against Verizon Wireless and LG Electronics Mobilecomm USA. Others named in the suit include Citrix Systems, Cox Communications, Comverse Technologies, Embarq Communications, RingCentral, Phone Fusion, and Grand Central (which was acquired by Google in June 2007). The suit was filed late August 26 in the U.S. District Court of Texas.

The lawsuit asserts that the Verizon Wireless’s Visual Voicemail services and LG’s Voyager cellphone infringe Klausner Technologies' U.S. Patent. 5,572,576.

New York-based Klausner Technologies is no stranger to such litigation. The company has already sought hundreds of millions of dollars in damages from tech giants like AT&T, Apple, Skype, Comcast, Cablevision, AOL Time Warner, and others for allegedly infringing on the patent. The company has, to date, granted visual voicemail licenses under the same patent to 11 companies, including wireless network service providers, cell phone manufacturers, and Voice over Internet Protocol service providers.
