Knowles Acoustics Introduces Its Digital MEMS-based SMD Microphone

ITASCA, Ill. - Knowles Acoustics released its new "Digital" series of SiSonic SMD microphones.  This is a "Digital" surface mount microphone based on Knowles MEMS microphone technology.  With availability in multiple package sizes, the device is designed for applications where component density is at an absolute premium - such as Mobile Phones, Digital Still Cameras, and MP3 Players.  Engineering samples are available now, with mass production scheduled for Q1, 2006.

Compared to the "Analog" SiSonic microphone, the "Digital" SiSonic is a Pulse Density Modulation (PDM) device, has an integrated sleep mode, and is compatible with stereo input applications.  The design of the Digital SiSonic incorporates the same patented MEMS technology utilized across the expanding SiSonic product range.  Therefore, it can be assembled using standard automatic pick-n-place equipment, conforms to lead-free requirements, and is compatible with industry Pb-free solder profiles (260° C reflow for 30 seconds maximum).

SiSonic is available with a standard supply voltage range of 1.6 to 2.9V, has maximum current consumption of 500uA, is compatible with high temperature reflow, and is rated to operate up to 100° C.
