Airport Inspections Become Speech-Enabled

--Using AccuSpeech voice technology from Vanguard Voice, aviation safety inspectors will be able to fill in inspection reports and file maintenance work orders hands- and eyes-free, Vanguard Voice and partner Astegic announced Friday at the SpeechTEK West conference here.

The inspection platform, Astegic's M-Inspector, is an e-forms application that can run on a PDA, mobile phone, or desktop, laptop, or tablet PC. With the inclusion of Vanguard Voice's AccuSpeech graphic user interface, an application that uses Nuance Communications' Vocon speech recognition engine, those conducting the inspections can cycle through the report fields and enter data by talking into the device. Where the same information is required in multiple fields, users can say a phrase once and it will be applied to every field where it is required on the form, says Bob Bova, CEO of Vanguard Voice.

"M-Inspector digitizes forms and surveys for the FAA to inspect planes, gates, runways, elevators, etc. With Vanguard, those forms have been voice-enabled for transmission over wired or wireless systems," explains Manoj Ramnani, Astegic's president.

"By using speech as a hands-free, eyes-free data collection capability for the M-Inspector Airport Inspection solution, Astegic continues to deliver to its customers the latest state-of-the-art capabilities to help inspectors more quickly and accurately assess and manage facilities, systems, and equipment," he adds.

"AccuSpeech makes it easy for software companies like Astegic to increase sales and revenues by quickly providing the enhanced productivity and data collection accuracy that only speech can deliver," Bova says.

AccuSpeech-equipped M-Inspector software is now being used at Dulles International and Ronald Reagan National airports in Washington and at several other airport operations around the country. It can also be used for inspection systems in the healtchcare, transportation, services and security markets. Several police departments are also using the system to issue parking and moving violation tickets.
