Brooktrout Technology Aids in Speech Recognition Applications

NEEDHAM, MA - Brooktrout Technology Inc., a provider of hardware and software platforms that enable applications for the New Network, announced that it has been awarded a patent for voice detection in audio signals. Using the latest advances in fuzzy logic, the technology provides robust detection of human speech by using digital signal processing techniques. "R&D has been and continues to be important at Brooktrout, and receiving this human speech detection patent is another example of our commitment to delivering the innovative technology that our partners need to develop applications for the New Network," said Eric Giler, president of Brooktrout, Inc. "Speech recognition is a rapidly growing market, and we intend to be a leader in delivering speech and voice capabilities that will enable the next generation of speech applications such as internet voice messaging, automated directory assistance, speech-enabled email, and voice portals." The growing popularity of mobile phones, along with advances in speech technology have made accessing information via voice, rather than entering numbers on a telephone keypad, a favored method of interaction. Brooktrout Technology provides developers with the platforms and technical features necessary to voice-enable speech recognition applications, including on-board echo cancellation with a 32 millisecond tail length and full-duplex channels to enable voice barge-in. Barge-in allows users to interrupt prompts by voice to activate a menu item or to make a choice.
