Ectaco Announces New 400 Series Dictionary Platform

Ectaco, a developer of pocket linguistic devices, has completed development of a special platform for small consignments of pocket electronic dictionaries. The new platform, called the 400 Series, allows development of fully functional talking pocket electronic dictionaries, typically in 3 to 6 months. Its architecture allows for the creation of dictionaries for many purposes. The most promising business prospects include: - Small consignments for any language combination. A number of regional distribution companies in the CIS and Baltic states have expressed interest in this area. On the order of one company in Azerbaijan, a new English-Azeri-Russian dictionary is being developed. As well, negotiations are being conducted to create similar dictionaries for Latvian, Kazakh, Uzbek and other languages.
- Development for corporate clients who need dictionaries with specialized terminology, such as companies in the aviation, energy and health care sectors. One feature is the option to include any relevant corporate information in the databases, such as company policies and procedures, as well as a corporate telephone and address directory. Each dictionary features:
- High resolution display
- Approximately 400,000 entries
- Speech synthesizer
- Dictionary supplement capability: upload new dictionary modules and/or create a so-called "User's Dictionary"
- Tourist phrase bank
- Telephone directory
- Supplemental data capability: may be pre-loaded with specialized databases on the order of the client
- Organizer functions

"Globalization is drawing many countries closer to one another," commented Ectaco VP of Research and Development Anton Epifanov, "Ectaco, in developing small consignments, is a catalyst for this process, since our products help people to understand one another. Ersen came to us with a request to create a device especially for the Estonian market. We made a relatively small batch of fully functional dictionaries based on our new 400-series product line. The EER430T's main distinction in relation to other dictionaries in the series is the selection of languages: Ersen chose them themselves. The versatility of our platforms and our large selection of linguistic databases allow us to create small consignments in short order for any languages, any specialized terminology, for any purpose. We would be glad to collaborate with organizations that want to solve language problems in a cost-effective way."
