Edify Selected by Landstar Systems

SANTA CLARA, CA - Edify® Corporation announced that it has successfully completed the phase one implementation of its voice and speech enhanced standards-based platform for Landstar Systems Inc. A non-asset based provider of transportation capacity, Landstar Systems Inc., (NASDAQ: LSTR) selected Edify based on its ability to quickly implement an enterprise-based solution for managing external carrier/operator alerts and load notifications. "With just a little more than a week's notice that our load notification paging service was going to be shut down, we were facing an event that could absolutely disrupt our business," said Dave Hesford, director of voice communications at Landstar Systems Inc. "Fortunately, Edify completely understood our challenge and we were able to leverage its technology and expertise to quickly implement a new enterprise-wide, speech-driven application that not only solved our problem, but improved our overall service and support. By leveraging the scalability and flexibility of Edify's open, standard-based platform, we have the solid foundation to build and deploy next-generation applications written in standard markup languages such as Voice XML." Landstar wanted to deploy a centrally managed speech-based application that would automate and expedite its load notification process, giving its fleet of independent carriers a detailed call regarding available loads. Edify's solution was able to provide specifics about load size, type and location that allowed drivers to match opportunities without requiring a phone call to a Landstar dispatcher. This saved valuable time at both ends of Landstar's operations and, as it began the overhaul of its entire enterprise communications platform, Landstar realized an immediate and significant return on its technology investment. "Landstar had reached a mission-critical junction in its operations and fortunately it was able to seize the opportunity to implement a voice and speech solution that enables improved management of both outreach support for carriers and internal communication operations," said Ted Bray, director of product marketing at Edify.
