Loquendo TTS Powers iPhone Translating App in 16 Languages

Loquendo and Sonico Mobile, developers of applications for the iPhone, announce the integration of Loquendo TTS into iTranslate, a translating application that has been especially developed for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iTranslate offers 16 languages.

iTranslate converts words, phrases, and even whole sentences into the the target anguage. Both the translation and the words being translated are read aloud by means of Loquendo TTS, facilitating the use of iTranslate as a means for cross-language communication or as a tool to assist in language leaning, a key component of which is the association of written words with their correct pronunciations. iTranslate currently supports 43 voices in 16 languages.

"Sonico Mobile has created an iPhone app which brings instant translations to your phone in many languages, making it an invaluable tool when learning a language, travelling, or communicating with people of different nationalities," says Claudio Genova, Loquendo sales manager for embedded technologies. "The success of this application is proof that multilingualism has become an important part of people’s work and leisure time, and that speech technologies are playing a vital role in this field."

"Loquendo TTS has enabled us to bring state of the art TTS technology to millions of iPhone users with very little programming effort", says Alexander Marktl, CEO of Sonico Mobile. "Users love simple yet powerful applications and the combination of iTranslate and Loquendo TTS is a perfect example."
