Newfound Communications Selects Phonetic Systems for Voice-Searchin Email

Newfound Communications, a provider of Advanced Grammar Management Technologies, today announced that it is using technology from Phonetic Systems, the leading provider of speech solutions for large or highly dynamic databases, for fast, cost-efficient, high-performance remote speech access to corporate email.

With Newfound's Email Reader, users can easily access and search their email with their voice as well as reply, forward, cc, compose new mail, delete, etc. The Email Reader can be integrated with corporate databases or knowledge bases while broadening access to calendar, contacts, document stores and corporate IVR systems.

James Loeber, vice president of business development at Newfound, said, "After extensive testing of available speech solutions, we found that on dynamic and untuned vocabularies, Phonetic Systems' Voice Search Engine platform yielded consistently higher recognition results. This is vital for an email search application, where email content is constantly changing."

Newfound's Email Reader platform enables the user to request a search by any keyword or phrase like "Board Meeting" or "John Smith". This ensures professionals aren't wasting their time listening to unsolicited commercial email or less important messages and can both reduce call durations and significantly increase productivity. Additionally, the Email Reader application resides behind the firewall, keeping sensitive data secure.

John McCready, vice president of product marketing at Phonetic Systems, said, "Our complementary technologies have allowed Newfound Communications to develop an exciting application for our service provider and enterprise customers to offer secure mobile email access with voice. With the strong growth in email communications, this application will be a key piece in speech and unified messaging strategies."
