Nuance Dragon Gives Voice to PlaySay App

Nuance's voice technology is now powering the PlaySay language learning app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, the company announced. PlaySay integrates Nuance's Dragon voice technology via the NDEV Mobile developer program, which provides developers with access to Nuance's voice recognition and text-to-speech technology.

PlaySay is an interactive social gaming app that connects Spanish and English language learners so they can learn phrases, practice with a real partner, and improve pronunciation. With Nuance's Dragon voice recognition and text-to-speech technologies, PlaySay evaluates users' pronunciation, provides feedback, and enables them to learn through an interactive game that instructs users to complete a series of real-world "missions."

"Through Dragon's voice technology, the gaming, social, and educational elements of PlaySay come together to promote an engaging user experience," said Matt Revis, vice president and general manager of handset business at Nuance Mobile, in a statement. "As the NDEV Mobile developer program rapidly expands, we're thrilled to see a diverse range of apps like PlaySay take advantage of Dragon to provide a unique, fun, and intuitive way of engaging consumers."

Nuance's Dragon Mobile SDK is available as part of the NDEV Mobile developer program and lets developers bring voice-enabled apps to market, even if they have never previously implemented speech technology. The Dragon Mobile SDK powers the voice recognition and speech-to-text capabilities of other apps on the market, including Price Check by Amazon, Kraft Foods' iFood Assistant, Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.com, and OnStar RemoteLink.
