Layoffs at Jibo

Jibo, maker of a social robot that caught TIME Magazine’s attention as one of the best inventions of 2017, has confirmed a round of layoffs. And this isn’t the first time. As Bostinno.com reports, “After a number of employees were laid off in December, the startup confirmed on Monday additional layoffs, which the company qualified as a “significant” reduction.”

Jibo topped out around 100 employees in two offices before these two rounds of layoffs. Now the company is reportedly down to 10 Boston-based employees. Jibo’s social robot costs $899, which, as it turns out, may either be too much or too little to keep the business afloat.
