Nexidia Inks Licensing Deal with Sonic Foundry

Nexidia announced a licensing agreement with Sonic Foundry, a video management and academic, enterprise, and event Webcasting provider, to automate dialogue-based tagging of rich media content.

Nexidia's dialogue-based tagging functionality will be embedded into the Mediasite Webcasting platform, which automates the capture, management, delivery, and search of live and on-demand streaming videos and rich media presentations that combine video with slides.

Nexidia automates metadata tagging of the video content so users can accurately search and discover contextually relevant content contained in media files. As a result, users can pinpoint specific content contained in rapidly growing video libraries being used for learning, outreach, and professional development. For example, educational institutions using Mediasite can provide students enrolled in a computer science class with the ability to search recorded lectures to quickly isolate relevant topics based on metadata indexes of keywords such as "programming languages," "Java," or "AJAX". Similarly, business professionals will be able to leverage Mediasite to search and discover relevant content from Webinars, Webcasts, and conferences.

"As our customers' video libraries continue to grow, they are seeking better ways to index, manage, and search the content on a more granular level," said Gary Weis, CEO of Sonic Foundry, in a statement. "Enhancing the search capabilities with Nexidia will give our customers access to accurate and flexible video search."

"Partnering with industry leader Sonic Foundry takes our technology directly to the education market, which is an important audience for Nexidia," said Drew Lanham, senior vice president and general manager of media and entertainment at Nexidia, in a statement. "By collaborating with Nexidia, Sonic Foundry increases the value and accessibility of their customers' growing media assets by making what was previously unstructured content searchable and manageable."
