Interactive Intelligence Upgrades Unified Communications Software

Interactive Intelligence, a developer of interaction management software, last week released Communité 2.2, the latest version of its large-scale unified communications and messaging software for enterprises and service providers.

Communité was designed for large, distributed and multi-tenant enterprises as a voice mail and fax replacement. The product integrates with Microsoft Exchange Server and other popular e-mail systems. In addition to unified messaging, Communité provides communications features, including one-number follow-me, call screening, call recording, conferencing and presence management.

The latest release of Communité improves its ability to interoperate with voice mail systems using the VPIM protocol, an Internet messaging protocol that enables disparate voice messaging systems to exchange voice mail over the Internet. With VPIM, enterprises can gradually migrate their employees to Exchange-based unified messaging.

Other new features in Communité include:
· Personal distribution lists that enable users to maintain their own contact lists, broadcast voice mail and fax messages to groups of people and view real-time presence information
· A new PDA client that runs on RIM Blackberry, Pocket PC and Palm OS devices, enabling mobile users to check messages, send faxes and access corporate directories from anywhere
· An optional knowledge management module that plugs into Microsoft Outlook and enables employees to access corporate knowledgebases
· Voice over IP support that provides integration with Cisco's AVVID platform and systems using session initiation protocol, an emerging Internet standard that establishes, routes, modifies and terminates communication services over IP networks.

"We believe that Communité is the clear technology leader for enterprise unified communications," said Dr. Donald E. Brown, president and CEO of Interactive Intelligence. "No other product comes close to offering Communité's scalability, performance and range of functionality. With version 2.2, we've extended Communité's reach to encompass PDAs, voice over IP, knowledge management and unparalleled integration with legacy voice mail systems. No wonder Communité is winning time after time in head-to-head competition with other unified messaging systems."

"Perhaps Communité's biggest differentiator is the fact that it's built atop an open platform that can be used for other applications such as interactive voice response and voice portals," Dr. Brown said. "With its graphical application generator, Communité can be easily customized to meet a variety of messaging and interaction management needs. Customers are looking for immediate return on investment and long-term investment protection these days. With Communité, they're finding it."

Communité was first released in January 2002. The product is available worldwide and can be purchased directly through Interactive Intelligence, or through its global network of more than 150 value-added resellers.
