Loquendo TTS Integrated into Beyo Translating App for iPhone

Loquendo, PONS, and Beyo, a supplier of camera-based information technologies, have jointly launched a multilingual translating app for the iPhone.

With SnapTranslate, users can photograph a piece of text, such as a restaurant menu or street sign, select on screen the word or phrase required, and receive a translation thanks to PONS translation software. The translation is then read out loud by means of Loquendo Text-to-Speech in German, English, French, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, or Polish.

Whether you’re sitting in a restaurant in Madrid and can’t understand the menu, or trying to park your car in Athens and have no idea what the sign says, help is at hand. No need to type.

"We are happy to cooperate with Loquendo and PONS because it gives us an opportunity to implement our technical know-how in the field of text recognition and translation in cooperation with well-renowned companies," says Cüneyt Göktekin, managing director at Beyo.

"At PONS, with SnapTranslate, we are continuing our development of innovative and sophisticated dictionary and translation apps of first-rate quality for iPhone users. We are quite sure that, along with the high quality of PONS’ dictionaries, it will be the application’s speed and intuitive user friendliness that will satisfy our users above all," says Gabriele Schmidt, managing director at PONS.

"This new iPhone app combines several pioneering technologies in one single application, including Loquendo’s multilingual synthetic speech. Ideal when on the move or in a hurry, users simply take a photo to have an accurate translation in seconds," says Claudio Genova, sales manager, Loquendo Embedded Technologies.
