NMS Communications, Nekotec and NETCOM Enable Voice-Activated Dialing for Pegaso PCS

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Through its strategic partnership with Latin American systems integrator Nekotec Electronics, NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), a supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, was selected by Latin American speech recognition solutions provider NETCOM to provide the voice processing platform for Pegaso PCS' voice-activated dialing (VAD) system, Sistema de Voz Pegaso. The VAD system eliminates the need to dial phone numbers and allows any Pegaso PCS customers to simply speak the name or phone number of the person or service they want to call while Sistema de Voz Pegaso automatically completes the connection.

As a Mexico wireless carrier, Pegaso has installed in Mexico a network of digital PCS services. NMS' voice processing and Signaling System 7 (SS7) platforms coupled with Nekotec Electronics' integration services have enabled NETCOM to provide Pegaso PCS with its Parlanta speech recognition platform. Pegaso PCS chose NETCOM because of its voice integration and interface design experience. NETCOM created two personas or voice personalities for Sistema de Voz Pegaso; a formal female voice targeted at corporate users, and a more informal, friendly female persona targeted at general customers.

"We are excited to be working with NMS on this voice-activated dialing solution for NETCOM," said Manuel Rojas, CEO of Nekotec. "NMS was the obvious partner of choice for powering Pegaso's system. The high density, reliability, and carrier-grade capacity of its communications platforms are unmatched in the industry and continue to be the premier selection of our customers across the board. We look forward to working with NMS on many additional projects throughout Latin America."

"We chose Nekotec for its world-class integration capabilities and superior technology partnerships such as they have with NMS. By integrating NMS' highly scalable voice processing building blocks into Parlanta, we are able to bring industry leading voice-enabled applications to market more quickly and cost-effectively," said Ranieri Mestroni, President of NETCOM. "Through the use of its voice-activated dialing system, Pegaso aims to create a seamless user experience, drive consumer adoption, and increase repeat usage. With the help of NMS and Nekotec we were able to provide them with the carrier-grade solution they required to do this."

"We are committed to supplying wireless and wireline operators with the scalable, flexible, reliable building blocks they demand when developing next-generation enhanced services such as voice-activated dialing," said Michael Welles, vice president and general manager of NMS' Platforms business. "We are delighted to be working with Nekotec and NETCOM to bring Pegaso PCS a robust, revenue-generating speech recognition application that directly addresses the needs of its business and attracts new wireless customers as well as increases usage."
