First Alert, Wemo Work with Google Assistant
First Alert has partnered with Google to enable Onelink products to work with the Google Home device and its hands-free, voice-controlled Google Assistant technology. The first such Onelink product, a smart Wi-Fi Thermostat, launches this month.
The voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant enables users to ask questions and command enabled activities, such as turning heat or air conditioning on or off, or setting temperature schedules.
"Through its integration with Google, the greatly enhanced Onelink Thermostat expands upon the ease and benefits of its previous generation, while bringing its innovative technology to a new platform and user base," said Tom Russo, vice president of marketing at First Alert, in a statement. "Onelink continues to enrich the connected home space with truly smart products that deliver on what families want: comfort, convenience, and peace of mind."
But First Alert isn't the only home automation company to announce compatibility with Google Home and Google Assistant. Also this week, Wemo, the smart home brand from Belkin International, has also announced an integration that will allow Wemo switches to work with Google Home, giving users hands-free, seamless control of their lights, fans, and other household electronics using just their voice.
"Voice control continues to be a major driver of smart home integration, and we're thrilled to expand our voice offerings with Google Home and Google Assistant," said Brian Van Harlingen, chief technology officer at Wemo, in a statement. "Wemo stands for simplicity and convenience, and working with Google Home is yet another way we can live up to those values and provide our users with an easy, useful, and fun smart home experience."
First launched in October, Google Home is a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. It lets users stream music, get answers from Google, manage everyday tasks, and control smart home devices.
