Voice Signal's Voice-Activated Phonebook Ships With New Samsung Wireless Camera Phone

WOBURN, MA - Voice Signal Technologies, a provider of speech recognition applications for mobile devices, announced the commercial implementation of its Voice-Activated Phonebook embedded on a mobile phone. The Voice-Activated Phonebook is one of a suite of Voice Signal applications that are fully integrated with the Samsung SPH-a600, Samsung's new wireless camera phone that began shipping August 4, 2003, to Sprint retail stores nationwide. By combining their technologies, Samsung and Voice Signal are trying to meet the growing needs of consumers for improved user interfaces through voice recognition. "Consumers now rely on their wireless phones for vital voice and data communication needs, while continuing to demand stylish and easy-to-use devices," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of Samsung's wireless terminals division. "By incorporating Voice Signal's embedded speech applications into additional Samsung wireless phones, we're able to simplify and improve the usability for the consumer." In addition to a rotating flip screen, 4x digital zoom camera and built-in flash, the Samsung a600 features Voice Signal's suite of voice recognition applications that enable users to access the features of their phone with voice commands alone. These include: Speaker-independent name dialing and look up; Voice-Activated Phonebook; text-to-speech output; and command and control. "As the market for speech solutions continues to grow, Voice Signal is excited to be at the forefront, delivering applications that greatly simplify the way consumers interact with handheld devices," said Dan Roth, CEO, Voice Signal Technologies. "The opportunities for voice-activated solutions on mobile devices are endless, and Voice Signal is pleased to continue teaming with industry leaders such as Sprint and Samsung to introduce new solutions that empower consumers and business users to be more efficient in their busy lives."
