VoiceBox and Elektrobit Offer Voice-Connected Car Development Platform

VoiceBox Technologies, developers of patented Conversational Voice software, has teamed up with Elektrobit to provide advanced natural language capabilities to Elektrobit's EB Guide, a human-machine interface (HMI) development platform.

EB Guide has a wide range of consumer-inspired features, including 3D content import, graphical animations and effects, speech recognition for dynamic data, and multitouch and touch gesture recognition for smartphone-like users. EB Guide also enables carmakers and suppliers to create multimodal HMIs enriched with HTML5 app-like content.

These capabilities will be further enhanced through the use of VoiceBox's Conversational Voice technology, which leverages patented Context Management to allow consumers to go beyond the current "voice-search" paradigm. In contrast to the traditional single-question, single-answer approach, VoiceBox allows users to query multiple topics in any order that is natural for them, and to ask follow-up questions.

"We are excited to make our unique voice interface capabilities available on Elektrobit's platform that is based on a vision we share—that consumers expect their automotive applications to have an HMI more similar to their other consumer devices," said Mike Kennewick, VoiceBox's CEO, in a statement.

"The auto industry is working to provide drivers with the same seamless experience they've come to expect from their smartphones and other consumer electronics products," said Martin Schleicher, Elektrobit's vice president of Infotainment products and strategy, in a statement. "By combining VoiceBox's technology with Elektrobit's HMI products, we enable a safe and nondistracting use of advanced voice interfaces with the in-car HMI."
