Amcom Software Acquires SDC Solutions

Minneapolis-based Amcom Software, a provider of mission-critical communications solutions, late yesterday acquired SDC Solutions of Manchester, N.H. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition strengthens Amcom’s position in the market for call-center and emergency management software, dramatically increasing its customer base and expanding its product portfolio.

SDC Solutions’ products, which include the IntelliDESK PC-based console, IntelliSPEECH Intelligent Virtual Agent, WebSERVICES Web-based directory, IPSERVICES IP-based directory, and Event and Emergency Notification, can be used together as part of a total call handling solution or individually. They run communications at some of the most prestigious U.S. healthcare, hospitality, higher education, government, and corporate organizations, including Bayer, Henry Ford Health System, Marquette University, the University of Maine, MITRE, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

“SDC Solutions has earned a strong presence in the same markets we already serve and excels at providing solutions in the small to midsize market," Amcom CEO Chris Heim said in a statement. "We’re impressed with SDC Solutions’ well-regarded software and anticipate remarkable demand for these products from Amcom customers as well as the market in general. SDC Solutions enjoys the loyalty of some of the country’s finest organizations, and those customers can rest assured that we intend to continue serving their needs as our number one priority.”

Though some product rebranding is expected over the next year or so, SDC's sales, support, and other operations are likely to remain unchanged, according to Ron Wenaas, an Amcom spokesman. "SDC hits a lot of the same markets where we do business, so this really adds to [Amcom's] business."

According to Amcom, the acquisition was prompted by repeated requests from SDC Solutions' customers for the company to extend its mission-critical software solutions to help manage problems related to 911 call management, incident management, and critical paging infrastructure. “Our customers have been asking us to help them better prepare for and manage emergency situations,” SDC Solutions’ president and CEO Joseph Jarnutowski said in a statement. “The experienced leadership and technological strength of Amcom Software will enable us to quickly meet that need, while at the same time ensuring ongoing support and growth for both our employees and our loyal customers.”

Prior to the SDC acquisition, Amcom acquired Xtend Communications in November 2007, Telident E911 in the spring of 2008, and Commtech Wireless in the fall of 2008. These acquisitions make Amcom "far and away the biggest company in the space right now," Wenaas says. "It puts us in the $50 million business range."
