M*Modal Partners with Cymetrix

M*Modal is teaming up with revenue cycle management provider Cymetrix to offer better efficiency within the revenue cycle through improved clinical documentation and reporting.

Through the partnership, healthcare organizations will be able to use M*Modal's Speech Understanding, transcription, and coding solutions to enhance reporting provided by the Cymetrix Business Intelligence Portal. The Cymetrix Business Intelligence Portal is a Web-based application that provides revenue cycle performance transparency with advanced analytics, offering key performance indicator dashboards and reports on demand.

Built on its cloud-based enterprise documentation platform, M*Modal's Speech Understanding technology allows providers to use their voice, in addition to keyboard and mouse, to document care and navigate clinical applications. The technology automatically converts the narrative into structured and encoded information, augmenting discretely captured data with meaningful information that drives improvements in care.

The companies said that accessing key clinical documentation information and usage statistics from M*Modal's solutions will provide real-time performance reporting and user data for transparency and continuous process improvement. As a result, clients should experience improvements in coding, lower operational costs, improved revenue cycle performance, and increased physician and patient satisfaction.

"Our partnership with Cymetrix provides our combined clients with a great new opportunity to help streamline their operations," said Vern Davenport, chairman and CEO of M*Modal, in a statement. "As a valued partner, Cymetrix can now fully leverage our latest advances in Speech Understanding and comprehensive workflow technologies for clinical documentation. The resulting structured output provides downstream clinical documentation improvement. When combined with more clinical and financial data, business operations are finding much needed new efficiencies through more accurate coding output, which leads to precise and timely reimbursement."

Separately, M*Modal announced that its cloud-based Speech Understanding technology has been chosen by Duke University Health System to support the rollout of its Epic electronic health record (EHR). The technology will be made available to more than 1,000 inpatient and ambulatory care physicians upon the EHR's implementation. Once fully deployed, M*Modal's technology will enable physicians throughout the enterprise to capture the patient's complete clinical story and extract meaningful, actionable information to populate the Epic EHR.
