Google Launches AI Edge Eloquent
Google yesterday introduced AI Edge Eloquent, an offline real-time speech-to-text transcription app for iOS users.
The free dictation app leverages Google's Gemma artificial intelligence model for on-device speech recognition. Users can also enable cloud-based processing for better results. When connected, the app integrates with Google Gemini models to further refine the text.
Users can import keywords, names, and jargon from their Gmail accounts and add custom words. As users speak, the app displays the live transcription, and when a pause is detected, it automatically refines the content by removing filler words.
AI Edge Eloquent also can provide a searchable history of prior transcription sessions and real time insights such as total words spoken and words-per-minute speed. It also offers several formatting options, enabling users to structure text as key points, formal,, or short- or long-form dictations. It can be used not just for note-taking, but also for drafting emails, documents, or summaries.
"Google AI Edge Eloquent is an advanced dictation app engineered to bridge the gap between natural speech and professional, ready-to-use text. Unlike standard dictation software that transcribes stumbles and filler words verbatim, Eloquent utilizes AI to capture your intended meaning. It automatically edits out ums, uhs, and mid-sentence self-corrections, outputting clean, accurate prose," Google wrote in its Apple App Store description for AI Edge Eloquent.
